Rev. Nicholas Samaras
Rev. Dr. Nicholas Samaras was born on Patmos, the “Island of the Apocalypse,” and raised in America. He holds degrees from degrees from the University of Denver (Ph.D) and Columbia University (MFA). His first book of poetry, Hands of the Saddlemaker, received the Yale Series of Younger Poets Award. He has also published Survivors of the Moving Earth and edited To the Country of that Spirit: Selected Poems and Essays of Alexandros Gialas (a.k.a. G. Verites). His most recent book is American Psalm, World Psalm (2014). His poems have been featured in The New Yorker, The New York Times, The Paris Review, Poetry, The New Republic, and Kenyon Review. He has received numerous awards, including The Lilly Endowment Fellowship (2004-05), The National Endowment for the Arts Poetry Fellowship (1997-98), The Colorado Center for the Book Award Poetry (1992), The Academy of American Poets Award (1992), and various State Literary Fellowship Awards.
