Vasilios N. Makrides

Vasilios N. Makrides studied theology at the University of Athens (1979-1983) and history and sociology of religions at Harvard University (1984-1986) and the University of Tübingen (1986-1991), from where he obtained his doctorate. He has taught at the University of Thessaly in Greece (1995-1998), and since 1999 he is Professor of Religious Studies (specializing in Orthodox Christianity) at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Erfurt (Germany). Among his research interests: Comparative religious and cultural history and sociology of Orthodox Christianity; religious and cultural relations between Eastern and Western Europe; Orthodox Christianity, modernity, and science; Greek Orthodox diasporic communities.
